Abstract

Abstract. The subject of the article is the variation and norm of Chinese spelling. The article discusses the spelling variants of Chinese words, determines the causes of spelling variance, characterizes the types of variation, and also indicates the reflection of variants (allographs) in modern Chinese dictionaries. The purpose of the study is to identify the specific features of the Chinese writing system in the formation of
variance and the norm of writing words. The results obtained can be applied in linguistics, cultural studies and cognitive research aimed at studying the typological features of the Chinese hieroglyphic system, as well as in the practice of teaching the Chinese language.
